: Mentioning of Shaheed Bhagat Singh as
‘revolutionary terrorist’ in Chapter 20, in a book titled ‘Bharat Ka Swantantra
Sangharsh” – India’s Struggle for Independence – has raised a question on the work
of the historians - Bipin Chadra and Mridula Mukherjee, mentions Bhagat Singh,
Chandra Shekhar Azad, Surya Sen and others as “revolutionary terrorists” in
Chapter 20.
Speaking to this correspondent
on mobile, Yadwinder Singh – great grand children in Bhagat Singh’s family
said, There were number of revolutionaries in the independence movement of
India and mentioning Bhagat Singh as ‘revolutionary terrorist’ after more than
six decades of independence has raised questions over the historians without
going into the facts of the interest group at that time.
Yadwinder Singh sent the photo
shots of the title, certain pages of the book on WhatsApp wherein the
‘terrorist’ word has been used number of times.
He pointed out that there were
number of revolutionaries of the independence movement of India including
Mahatama Gandhi, Chander Shekhar, Lala Lajpat Rai and so on, who too were a part of freedom movement of India
then as to why Bhagat Singh is being referred to as a revolutionary terrorists
in the books, who gave their lives for the freedom of the country.
He further said that it is very
unfortunate that using such words for revolutionaries is an attempt to stir
controversy.
Yadwinder Singh said, the
government must take appropriate action to withdraw the book from Delhi
University and declare Bhagat Singh and his associates – Sukhdev and Rajgur -
as martyr who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of India. He too is referring the matter to the
Ministry of Human Resources to intervene in the matter, to avoid any further hullaballoo
on the issue.
